What is HTTPS, SSL?
HTTPS is a secure protocol for
communication between servers and the browser. The only difference between HTTP
and HTTPS is the SSL certificate, or rather TLS, which offers this extra
dimension of security. than Transport Layer Security). A green padlock will
appear next to the URL if the certificate is compliant.
There are 3 levels of
certification:
At the domain level: The simplest
version, the cheapest and the fastest.
At the level of the organization:
It verifies the company and the information is visible in the small padlock of
the navigation bar
Extended validation: the most
expensive, the longest to obtain but the security is maximum. It is often used
for large e-commerce sites.
Since the end of 2016, many hosts
offer a certificate in open-source and free called "Let's Encrypt" .
The beginning of HTTPS
Google, at its 2014 annual
conference, announced the HTTPS migration of the websites of its services
(Gmail, Google.com, Chrome, G Calendar, ...). Moreover, the web giant has
encouraged developers and webmasters to switch their sites to HTTPS. In the
same year, the search engine stated that it considers the security of a site as
a criterion for natural referencing.
The HTTPS in 2017
In its announcement of 2016, Google
has decided to implement signaling, in several times, unsecured web sites in
HTTP. First time, the navigation bar will be gray, then the annotation
"Not Secure" or "Not secured" will appear. Finally, at the
end of 2017, the qualification should go red, to indicate to the user the
potential danger.
